INFORMATION & CONSENT FOR TREATMENT

with botulinum toxin type A (antiwrinkle) and hyaluronic acid dermal filler

Please read the following possible risks and side effects of treatment with hyaluronic acid dermal fillers

  • Swelling is very common and often worse in the 2 days after treatment, it will subside over the following week. This is most noticed in the lips and jaw areas. If swelling is an issue we can prescribe medication to reduce this. Your results can appear asymmetrical while still swollen.

  • Bruising and tenderness are common, and can last from hours to over a week. This can be reduced by using micro-cannula instead of fine-needle. Bruising can also be hidden via make-up.

  • 1 in 20 chance of dermal filler migration to adjacent areas - this is common in lips and nasolabial folds due to the tension and movement in these areas.

  • 1 in 50 chance of puffiness or blue tinging. Usually only in lips or under eyes; filler can be dissolved to treat this.

  • 1 in 100 chance of small lumps. Usually due to muscle movement but can be from an immune reaction. Massage can fix this or filler can be dissolved.

  • 1 in 100,000 chance of a skin infection - easily treated with antibiotics

  • 1 in 500,000 chance of filler blocking an artery Skin can die if not dissolved. In 200 cases worldwide, an artery to the brain or eye was blocked leading to permanent loss of function. Careful injection technique and usage of a cannula greatly reduces (but does not eliminate) this risk. Certain areas are higher risk for this complication (such as nose, upper eyebrows and forehead

  • There is the risk you will not like your results - each person is different and results will vary. It is not possible to predict the final outcome with 100% certainty. We cannot offer refunds due to the high price we pay for cosmetic injectables but we will happily dissolve the filler with hyaluronidase if you are unhappy with the outcome. Any free refinements are limited to 20% of the initial amount purchased.

  • 1 in 50 chance of temporary facial asymmetry - can be very quickly and easily fixed at no extra cost to you.

  • 1 in 1000 chance of headaches - usually resolve within 2 weeks.

  • 1 in 2000 chance of temporary eye droop or dry eyes. This is caused by toxin migrating down to the eye. Avoid  pressing on your face for 6 hours to prevent this. If this does occur we can prescribe medications to reduce these effects.

  • 1 in 100,000 chance of a skin infection - treated with antibiotics.

  • Duration of results is on average 3 months can can be significantly shorter or longer depending on your physiology. We cannot guarantee how long the therapeutic effect will last.

  • There is the risk you may not like your results. The final outcome cannot be predicted with 100% certainty due to individual variation in muscle configuration and drug response.
